Tiny Bacteria.  Big Results.

Hello there, my name is Lactobacillus.

Don’t confuse me with my friend, bifidobacteria, even though we do the same job.

My name might be hard to say, but rest assured, my job is EXTREMELY important in YOUR body.

That’s right, I live INSIDE of you.

Along with 700 billion of my very close friends!

Don’t worry, you have no idea we even exist inside YOU.

In fact, we live inside EVERYBODY.

We hide in your large intestine.  We support your immune system, and help it function properly.

In fact, some scientists even say that WE ARE your IMMUNE SYSTEM.

It’s pretty easy to get rid of us.

Get a bacterial infection and take some antibiotics, and you can rest easy knowing that you also destroyed us.

But it is pretty easy for us to re-establish ourselves in YOUR body.

Items such as yogurt and fermented milk can quickly build our colony back up.

How?

These items contain many of us.  And we like to spread our wings in your intestines.

We are living organisms that protect YOUR body 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

We are bacteria.

Not the kind of bacteria that causes sickness and infections, but we are a HEALTHY bacteria, that lives in your colon.

We go by another name you might know:  gut flora.

We are micro-flora!

We are tiny bacteria, and we keep YOU healthy and strong.

Now let us introduce ourselves…

Meet My Little Friends

There are billions, if not trillions, of bacteria which have colonized in your large intestine.

These healthy bacteria are probiotics, meaning they are extremely beneficial to your health.

Microflora fights off toxins and infectious bacteria, which can invade your body and cells, eventually leading to sickness and possibly increasing inflammation.

Yogurts and certain fermented milk are prebiotic drinks, meaning they carry live bacteria, which once digested, may help build the colony of bacteria already naturally occurring inside you.

By supplementing your diet with live bacteria, you are providing nutrients for the bacteria which are already colonized in your body.

And it also brings in more bacteria which build the colony in your gut.

These bacteria did not colonize in your intestines out of the blue.

In fact, when you were born, you started to accumulate these healthy bacteria to aid your frail immune system to fight off toxins and infectious organisms.

Most bacteria you might think about are considered pathological, which means it creates problems in your body and makes you sick.

The bacteria occur naturally and are non-pathological because they are designed to protect your body.

There are two main bacteria which improve health and may reduce inflammation.

They are: Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.

You body has different ways that it rids itself of these healthy bacteria.

The use of antibiotics for diarrhea destroys the bacteria colony.  This leaves your body susceptible to infection and inflammation.

Lactobacilli

Lactobacilli is a potent bacteria that can replenish gut flora in times of trouble, especially in severe cases of diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea, or in children when they are exposed to antibiotics!

Ever been to Mexico and drank the water?

Now you understand how bacteria can easily escape YOUR gut!

Lactobacilli is an active bacteria which may stop inflammation, as well as a host of other things.

Your body releases an immune response when exposed invading organisms or allergens.  Your body perceives them as foreign.

So your immune system treats it as a toxin and quickly releases cells to destroy the invader.

Bacteria, Immune Response, and Inflammation

However, when you have allergies or autoimmune disorders, your body has a hard time determining what it needs to destroy, especially in autoimmune diseases!

Your body sends a response which attacks healthy tissue, commonly the joints, but also it can attack vital organs needed for your survival.

There are specific antibodies that your cells release when you are having an allergic reaction.

Antibodies like IgG and IgE are increased in the body when exposed to allergens.

Increased levels of these antibodies may determine the severity of the reaction to an allergy or the autoimmune disease process.

Mice treated with Lactobacillus casei showed a decreased level of IgE and IgG, even though they were exposed to an allergy.

The use of Lactobacillus MAY BE a BREAKTHROUGH in the treatment of allergies and asthma.

Children also have heightened risk factors for catching a cold or the flu.

The ability of children to fight off invading bacteria which cause them to get sick, may be due to a underdeveloped immune system.

But there is good news!

Lactobacillus may reduce the risk of respiratory tract infections in children who attend childcare, or who are in the hospital.

Sending your child to childcare with a natural way to FIGHT the common cold and flu, would be the ideal situation during cold and flu season!

These potent bacteria may help fight the common cold and may also curb allergies and allergic reactions.

To Wrap It All Up...

Your body, specifically your gut or intestines, are thriving with healthy live bacteria.  These bacteria may aid the immune system in fighting off harmful bacteria and toxins.

Fighting off these invading bacteria and toxins keep you healthy!

However, sometimes your body depletes microflora population, which may weaken your immune system, leaving you susceptible to harmful bacteria.

Probiotic bacteria found in yogurt and fermented milk may help re-form your colony of flora in your gut.

These bacteria may also provide nutrients which can feed the colony, helping it to thrive in your intestines.

Increased bacteria may not only reduce inflammation, but it may also control allergies and asthma by lowering specific antibodies which are released and activated.

Can these bacteria help you lose weight?
